Removal FAQs
How Does Laser Tattoo
Removal Work?
Laser works by targeting pigment in the skin and breaking down the particles. The pigment is then cleared by the body's lymphatic and vascular system. Different wavelengths of laser light beams are used to target specific colours of ink, which can effectively lighten or remove unwanted pigment.
Does It Hurt?
Some discomfort is to be expected with laser tattoo removal. The sensation is described as feeling like an elastic band is being flicked against the skin. Pain tolerances vary between each individual, however the treatment is a fairly quick procedure lasting only minutes, so any discomfort is short lived.
Will Laser Affect My Skin and Brow Hairs?
The brow hairs and skin can temporarily turn white. This is known as 'Frosting'. This is not permanent and the skin and brow hairs will return to their original colour within a few hours. If organic ink was used, the pigment is likely to turn red after the first session. Subsequent sessions will reduce the red tone. A small amount of bleeding may occur and the brows will begin to heal over the next 7-10 days. Mild swelling, tenderness, itchiness and scabbing is a normal part of the healing process. If profound swelling or pus occurs, please seek immediate medical attention.
Is Laser Tattoo Removal Suitable for Darker Skin Tones?
Yes! We use an Nd:YAG laser which is known to be a safe and effective laser for darker skin tones. Just like with any type of procedure there are risks such as minor burns, hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) or hypopigmentation (skin lightening). Whilst these risks are rare, we strongly encourage all new clients to be patch tested.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
There is no fixed amount of sessions. Some brows may only require 2 or 3 sessions of removal, whereas others my require several sessions before the pigment has lifted. 8 weeks between each removal session is recommended to allow the skin time to heal.
Can You Cover Over My Brows After Removal?
There are a number of factors to be considered before determining if the brows are suitable for a cover up with Amor Brows.
- If there is scarring in the area from where the old pigment was implanted, it can make it difficult to implant new pigment into scar tissue. Microneedling may be advisable to help with scarring
- If the pigment has not lifted to our desired results, it may not be possible for a cover up.
More often than not the pigment should lift enough for a cover up of Ombre Brows after a number of removal sessions.
Will I Need A Patch Test?
It is recommended that a patch test is carried out a minimum of 24 hours in advance where possible to determine if there are signs of an allergic reaction. Where clients are not local or cannot make the recommended patch test, a waiver of consent can be signed at the appointment.
